THE POWER OF WORDS!
Writing workshop with Mark Cotta Vaz
In a techno-consumer culture obsessed by the latest gadgets, we can forget that content matters, that words—in all their infinite arrangements—have power.
Local author Mark Cotta Vaz invites you to join his free 2018 writer’s workshop series at the Smalltown Society community center in Castro Valley. The program is open to any interest, whether it’s forging a writing career, increasing one’s communication skills at work, or writing the family memoir.
Introductory Class: February 10, Saturday, 10:00-12:00 Noon
This introduction provides an overview of the writing process. It’s also a get-to-know-you session to evaluate each student’s particular interest—what do you want to work on, what are your expectations and goals?
Class One: How Do I Get Started? March 3, Saturday, 10:00-12 Noon
Okay, how do you get started? Session focuses on developing one’s idea, designing its structure, and how to “speak” to the reader. Session will also touch on developing additional skills, such as integrating visual elements.
Class Two: The Pitch. April 7, 10:00-12 Noon, Saturday
How do you sell or promote an idea? This session focuses on crafting query letters and proposals.
Class Three: Just Do It! May 5, Saturday, 10:00-12 Noon
How to meet deadlines, edit the work, and bring your project to completion. Session will include reviews of student’s works-in-progress.
